Suspect hits Princeton police officer with car

Early Sunday morning, a Princeton police officer was struck by a small Honda vehicle as he attempted to make a traffic stop.
According to a news release from the Princeton Police Department, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Officer C.A. Jones saw a small vehicle traveling on U.S. 70 East run off the highway, into the median and back onto the highway.
Jones then proceeded to attempt to stop the vehicle in order to see if the driver was sleepy or impaired.
The vehicle did not stop, however, and Jones pursued.
After losing sight of the vehicle in Wayne County, Jones later saw it parked on the shoulder of Charlie Braswell Road.
According to the release, Jones then turned onto Charlie Braswell Road and parked with his vehicle facing the suspect's.
He then exited his vehicle and approached the suspect with his weapon drawn.
The release then stated that as he was ordering the driver to exit the car, the suspect sped toward Jones and struck him with the vehicle.
Jones was hit in both legs and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital by the Wayne County EMS. He was treated for severe bruising and scrapes and released.
The N.C. Highway Patrol in Wayne County is investigating.
