Host families needed for exchange students

Terra Lingua, a program that facilitates the summer visits of foreign students to the United States is still in need of host families in the Wayne County area.
Six French students will be arriving on June 19 and are in need of a family to share their home and their time for a few weeks.
Terra Lingua is administered in this area through East Carolina University and officials say that in the past Wayne County residents have been very good about welcoming foreign students into their homes, providing a glimpse of American life and in return, getting to know what life is like for a young person from another country who is interested in the U.S.
Last year, five families from the Goldsboro area participated.
The program is a unique and enriching way to experience a different culture, right at home. It is also a great way to increase the awareness of your children and community of the world we live in.
Every family participating will automatically qualify to receive a $500 scholarship if their children go abroad with the program during the summer 2010.
Time is of the essence, said Dr. Frederic Fladen-muller, who helps guide the annual program at ECU.
The students are from Spain and France and will spend up to a month in the U.S.
Terra lingua/ Terre des Langues is an organization which stands for "World of Lan-guages."
The program is a way to bridge the gap between local families in eastern North Carolina area and students learning English in Spain and France.
Grandparents and single families also are encouraged to apply.
