A former counselor at Rosewood Middle School has been named Teacher of the Year for the district where she is a reading specialist in Georgia. Marva Shearod, a graduate of Goldsboro High School, works at Toney Elementary School in DeKalb County. She was also included in Who's Who Among America's Teachers and selected to participate in the Criterian Reference Competency Test review by the Georgia Department of Education, which is comparable to the end-of-grade test in North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Marvin and Cora Shearod of Goldsboro.
