Wayne County Public Schools recognized 46 artists from the district recently during the 2008-09 visual arts awards reception at Herman Park Center.
Joy Vinson, an art teacher at Fremont STARS Elementary School, was also honored as the Zeno Spence Elementary Art Educator for 2008-09.
This is the 18th year for the recognition, co-sponsored by the Arts Council of Wayne County.
Dr. Steven Taylor, WCPS Superintendent, welcomed the students, parents, and educators in attendance. He emphasized the importance of the arts and how critical the arts are to the educational process of many youngsters.
Special recognition was given in several categories, including "Superintendent's Choice Art" for students K-12, "Scholastic Art," recognizing students who won Scholastic Art Awards at the regional held at Barton College earlier this year, and the top district-wide "Christmas Card" design.
