Goldsboro police this morning were still awaiting the results of an autopsy in the death of an unidentified person found after an early Saturday morning fire.
Until word from the medical examiner is received, police cannot confirm whether they suspect foul play in the death.
Police Sgt. Chad Calloway said this morning that the medical examiner responsible for the case was in a meeting and unavailable for an update on the autopsy.
The body was found around 1:34 a.m. on Saturday after South Best Street resident Audrey Lambert reported seeing smoke coming from the residence.
Ms. Lambert and Lovanna Schulz pulled up to the home early that morning and noticed the fire, the sergeant said.
According to the report, the fire caused about $2,000 in damages to the home.
Firefighters told police they found the body after extinguishing the fire.
Investigator Bryant Canady responded to the scene for further investigation. Police expect to release more information later today.
