The author of a book on the housing crisis and its implications for investors will speak at Wayne Community College next month.

Whitney Tilson said he and co-author Glenn Tongue have been "obsessed" with the topic -- and in January decided to write a book about it. "More Mortgage Meltdown -- 6 Ways to Profit in These Bad Times" was completed in early March and turned around in record time by publishers.

Tilson has been much in demand, appearing around the country speaking and promoting the book, said Jack Kannan, director of the college's Foundation.

"Baddour Parker and Hine, the Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce are collaborating to bring this guy here," he said. "He's a high-profile guy ... He recently lectured in Chapel Hill and just got back from one of Warren Buffett's conferences. When we asked him about coming to talk to us and what his fee would be, he said, 'If you buy my books, that gets you in.' We agreed to that."

So when Tilson graces the stage of Moffatt Auditorium on Wednesday, June 3, books will be available for the public as price of admission. The program starts at 7 p.m.

Kannan said he is very excited about the author's upcoming visit.

"I have been wanting to find a speaker that's not tied to a political party," he said. "He's not gloom and doom, but he is very knowledgeable."

It's well worth buying the book, Kannan said, and copies will likely also be sold in the college bookstore.

The book covers an overview of the current U.S. housing market, addressing what happened, why, where we are today and what the future holds. The second half offers a more optimistic approach, with principles of investing and an in-depth analysis of several stocks.
