Six students from Wayne to attend Governor's School

Six students from Wayne County Public Schools have been accepted to attend Governor's School this summer.
Governor's School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically and intellectually gifted high school students in the nation.
The program is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in the visual/performing arts. The school is located on two campuses -- Governor's School West, established in 1963, at Salem College in Winston-Salem, and Governor's School East, established in 1978, located at Meredith College in Raleigh.
The 2009 session will run from June 14- July 25.
Accepted at Governor's School West is Danielle Daniel of Eastern Wayne High School, in the area of natural science.
Accepted at Governor's School East are Ashley Howell of Charles B. Aycock High School, in math; Kylie Glisson of Rosewood High, math; and from Spring Creek High, Hanna Hall, art, Neal O'Hara, math, and Elizabeth Price, natural science.
Administrators said the announcement is considered a high honor.
"The students accepted into this program are some of the brightest in the state," said Dr. Steven Taylor, WCPS Superintendent. "While attending Governor's School, the students will have a wonderful opportunity to further cultivate their talents and abilities."
