SEVEN SPRINGS -- The oldest town in Wayne County will celebrate its history on Saturday, May 9, when Seven Springs residents reach back in time to their roots during the Ole Timey Days festival.

The event is in its 9th year and organizers say they are hoping for their biggest crowd to date.

Vendors and craftsmen of all types will join living history demonstrators, along with a number of entertainment acts and, of course, there will be plenty of food on hand.

As a special treat, Miss North Carolina, Amanda Lauren Watson, also will make an appearance.

The festival starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m., with a street dance from 8-11 p.m. There will be free carriage rides, the Wayne Shrine Club Mini-Rigs, bands from Spring Creek High and Middle School and the Miss Ole Timey Days Pageant.

Seven Springs, originally known as Whitehall, was founded by settlers in the early 1700s.
