Sam Hunter, left, of T.A. Loving Co., received the Distinguished Citizen Award Monday during a banquet held by the Tuscarora Boy Scout Council. Presenting the award was former State Sen. John Kerr.

Samuel Hunter received the "Distinguished Citizen Award" Monday before more than 175 friends, business associates and family members. The award, presented by the Tuscarora Council of the Boy Scouts of America, honors Hunter for his business leadership, community service and character.

Hunter, a resident of Goldsboro since 1971, is the president and CEO of T.A. Loving Company. He has served in leadership roles on the Associated General Contractors of America, the largest commercial construction trade organization in the U.S., and Confederated International Construction Association, an organization that advises the World Bank on its funded construction projects in Third World countries. In addition to these roles, Hunter has also served the Tuscarora Council and various other community organizations.

Hunter is married to Ann Loving. They have two children and one grandchild.

Proceeds from the event benefited the Tuscarora Council, which serves about 6,600 youth and their families in Duplin, Johnston, Sampson and Wayne counties of eastern North Carolina.
