The 19 historic homes currently for sale in downtown Goldsboro will be on display this weekend, as city and Preservation North Carolina officials are scheduled to host an open house event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those interested in taking the tour can pick up maps and information during event hours at the Hicks-Broom House, located at 410 N. James St., or the Nettie B. Taylor House, located at 408 S. John St.

But downtown officials said Saturday is more than just a chance to generate interest in downtown properties.

They hope it will also generate an interest in the downtown area, itself.

So as soon as the open house ends, Jazz on George and an antique car show begin.

Jazz on George, an annual concert known to draw a crowd, will be held on the 100 block of North George Street, and will feature three musical acts: The Monitors, Adrian Duke and Julia Nixon.

The event is free and open to the public and those who attend are encouraged to bring thieir lawn chairs and blankets, but there is one key restriction: coolers are not permitted.

Beer, wine and food will all be on hand for purchase.
