Grant helping pay for new Foster Center equipment

Children visiting the W.A. Foster Center will have new playground equipment in the coming months, following City Council approval of an informal bid for the work.
"Hopefully we'll be started May 1," said Gail Charles, interim Parks and Recreation director.
Raleigh-based company N.C. Playscapes Construction put in the low bid of $21,662.30 to install swings, slides, two camelback climbers and a new four-way animal hop. The playground will also have a handicap access ramp, trails and cypress wood chips for safety.
W.A. Foster is not the only city park undergoing refurbishment. Construction on the new tennis courts at Mina Weil Park was slated to begin April 1, but was temporarily postponed because of the rain.
"Those should be started any time," Mrs. Charles said.
A community development block grant will pay for the new equipment at W.A. Foster, and Mrs. Charles said the city is continuing to develop other Parks and Recreation projects, including new climbing rocks for Stoney Creek Park.
"There's so many things that need to be done, I'm just digging for grants," Mrs. Charles said.
