The Kiwanis clubs have a big day planned Saturday at Herman Park Center, in the park and downtown.

The first event is the first Kiwanis One Day Pancake breakfast in the Herman Park Center, which will be held from 8 until 11:30 a.m.

The breakfast is being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Goldsboro, the Golden K Kiwanis Club, the Sunrise Kiwanis Club and four local high school Key Clubs sponsored by the Kiwanis clubs. The high schools are Goldsboro, Charles B. Aycock, Eastern Wayne and Wayne Early Middle College High School.

Cost for breakfast is $5 for all you can eat. Proceeds will go toward the new soccer park planned for Wayne County near Waynesborough Historical Village. The Kiwanis Clubs are also working this day with the City of Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department to make a new picnic area near the train concession stand in Herman Park.

At 9 a.m. at the Cornerstone Plaza on the corner of Chestnut and Center streets, the 31st Annual Greater Goldsboro Road Run will begin. Events include the 10K run, 5K run, 5K walk and the one mile fun run. Club members say this is one of the oldest running events in the state. The USATF certified courses run primarily through residential areas. USATF stands for USA Track & Field, the national governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the U.S.

And at 1 p.m., the Kiwanis Special Train begins another season in Herman Park. Rides will continue until 5 p.m. The train will run every weekend afternoon through September. This is the train's 54th season, club member say, and it gives the public a chance to "ride a piece of history."
