Seymour Johnson Air Force Base personnel are gearing up for war, and this week that means Wayne County residents can expect to hear much more from the 4th Fighter Wing's F-15E fleet.
Base officials said airmen are scheduled to participate in a deployment preparation exercise Tuesday through Thursday, one that will extend flying hours to 18 a day and might mean jet noise as late as 1 a.m.
So they thanked the communities that surround the base for their understanding over the next few days -- and for their continued support when 4th fighter squadrons and those who keep them flying begin tours at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, later this year.
