Goldsborough living history demonstration set for Saturday

Wayne County residents can walk the ground where 15,000 men fought for the control of the old Neuse River railroad bridge when Civil War re-enactors put on a living history demonstration at the site Saturday.
The Battle of Goldsborough Bridge was fought in 1862. Today, a 32-acre park has been created at the site and re-enactors will set up a camp and demonstrate rifle, musket and artillery fire along with tours of the site.
It is the first such living history program at the site and organizers and county officials hope it will prove a tourist draw and help put the park on the map for Civil War buffs. Firing demonstrations are scheduled for 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
A full-scale re-enactment of the battle is planned for December, on the battle's anniversary.
