Scheduled for April 15-16 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, the annual Wayne County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is right around the corner.
Sponsored by Wayne County Cooperative Extension and the Wayne County Livestock Development Association, the event is geared toward giving young people the opportunity for "learning experiences in livestock production by developing basic skills in selection, management, and marketing," county livestock agent Eileen Coite said.
Fifty-eight young people, ages of 5 to 19, from all across Wayne County will be participating. They will be showing feeder calves, market hogs and meat goats. All animals will be weighed in for the show on Wednesday morning, April 15. The show will begin that evening at 6 p.m. with the meat goats, followed by feeder calves at 8 p.m. On Thursday, at 9 a.m. the market hogs will be shown.
All animals will be marketed at the sale, and each child may enter one animal in the live sale auction, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Sponsors for the Show and Sale also are still being taken. Anyone interested in supporting an individual exhibitor, group or the whole show, or anyone in need of more information can call 731-1520.
Show and Sale programs will soon be available at the Cooperative Extension office at 208 W. Chestnut St., and at the Wayne County Fairgrounds office.
