The early deadline to sign up for the Neuse River Senior Games and Silver Arts competition is today.

Already 75 participants have registered.

For anyone registering after today, the fee is $15.

All participants must be registered by March 20.

The 24th annual games and art competition will be held in New Bern from April 20 to April 30. The performing arts competition will be May 7 in New Bern.

The Senior Games include bowling, swimming, horseshoes, cycling, track and field, croquet, bocce, shuffleboard, miniature golf and more. Participants compete against others in their same age, gender and fitness level categories.

The Silver Arts competition includes vocal, comedy, drama, dance and instrumental categories, as well as heritage crafts such as basket weaving, quilting and wood turning; visual arts such as drawing, painting and photography; and literary arts such as poetry, short stories and essays.

The Neuse River Senior Games include participants from six counties, including Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir and Pamlico.

Qualifiers in the local games can go on to compete at the North Carolina Senior Game Finals held every fall in Raleigh. Then, every other year, qualifiers from the state level can continue on to compete in the National Senior Games.
