Six students to compete Saturday for title of Miss Southern Wayne

On Saturday, March 14, six young ladies will compete for in the Miss Southern Wayne Pageant.

The pageant will begin at 7 p.m. at the Dillard Middle School Auditorium.

The theme of this year's pageant is "Southern Wayne Flight 2009: A Non-Stop Tour." This year's competition will consist of an interview segment, oral presentations, talent and evening gown. During the oral segment contestants will take the audience on a virtual tour while highlighting tourist destinations around the world.

The contestants are as follow:

*Sarah Wyse is a sophomore and is the daughter of Vivian Alford, Andrew Alford, and Robbie Wyse. She is a member of the BETA Club and Fellowship of Christian Students. For her talent, she will be performing a lyrical dance to "Breathe No More."

*Lila Velasquez is the daughter of Nereo and Silvia Perez. She is a junior and a member of Future Business Leaders of America and the Drama Club. For her talent, she will be singing "Dreaming of You" by Selena.

*Joshulyn Johnson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Miller. She is a junior and a member of the National Honor Society and serves as Junior Class President. For her talent, she will perform a vocal and instrumental piece to "Summertime."

*Kierra Faison is the daughter of Douglas Levinston and Kathy Faison. She is a junior and is active in SaintSound and Cheer Magic Hip-Hop Dance Team. For her talent, she will perform a liturgical dance to "One Night with the King."

*Shantell Farrior is the daughter of Jean Farrior. She is a junior and is a member of the drama and poetry clubs. For her talent, she will play an alto saxophone solo of "My Funny Valentine."

*Kirsten Hakes is the daughter of Randall and Lisa Hakes. She is a senior and a member of the varsity cheerleading squad and SaintSound. For her talent, she will sing "Broken Wing" by Martina McBride.

The Southern Wayne Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Cindy Grant, and SaintSound, under the direction of Jason Cox, will provide special entertainment throughout the evening.

Special appearances will also be made by Brittany Sampson, Miss Southern Wayne 2008 and Mrs. Robin's Academy of Dance.

The pageant is being coordinated by Freda Allen and is sponsored by the Student Government Association.
