Senior center offers tax help

Wayne County Services on Aging, with help from AARP, is offering free tax assistance for seniors.
An AARP tax assistant with be at the Wayne County Senior Center, 100 S. John St., on Tuesdays beginning Tuesday and continuing until April 14 to help seniors -- 60 and older -- with simple tax returns. That includes people with W-2, 1099 and Social Security forms.
Anyone with a more complicated form should go to the Wayne County Public Library on East Ash Street in Goldsboro on Mondays and Thursdays. To itemize returns, proof of donation must be provided, as well as proof of vehicle taxes, mortgage interest, and home taxes.
Each senior must bring a Social Security card and photo identification.
Also, it will take several days to receive printed copies of the processed returns, which will be available at the senior center.
Taxes will be prepared by appointment only. Call 731-1591 for an appointment.
