Home Health and Hospice, or 3HC, has received a $750,000 grant from the State Employees Credit Union Foundation for the expansion of Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The gift brings the total donations to $2 million of the $4 million necessary to double the center from 12 beds to 24.

Kitty Askins was built in 1995. In recent years, the need has exceeded the capacity, oftentimes resulting in a waiting list for patient beds and services.

With the projected expansion, the Wayne Memorial Drive facility will be expanded by 13,000 feet. The new wing will be named "SECU House at Kitty Askins Hospice Center."

"We are very thankful and pleased that the members of the SECU Foundation have made such a generous grant to Kitty Askins Hospice Center," said Dean Lee, president and CEO of 3HC. "This gift will enable 3HC to provide the compassionate care that is so needed. We are proud to partner with the SECU and its members in service to our community."

As an advisory board member for SECU, Bo Wessell said, "I was well aware of SECU's philosophy of 'People Helping People' and the many community projects supported by the SECU Foundation. To me, the pairing of Kitty Askins and SECU Foundation seemed to be a natural combination of community needs being met by community support."
