Businessman seriously injured in Jacksonville

The owner of N.C. Salvage was involved in a serious car accident in Jacksonville on Monday morning.
Charles Daniels, owner of the U.S. 117 South auto and scrap recycling businesses, is in intensive care at Pitt Memorial Hospital, said Marie Smith, the secretary and treasurer of his company.
"All I can share with you is he was in a car accident yesterday in Jacksonville," Mrs. Smith said. "As far as his recovery time, we're just waiting for doctors to give us some good news."
A spokesman for the state Highway Patrol in Onslow County said the accident happened about 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 258 and Bratton Road. He said no charges had been filed as yet and that the investigation was continuing.
The secretary-treasurer said she did not know when Daniels would leave the intensive care unit.
Daniels, also known by his nickname "Tadpole," actively combated what he saw as a negative image for the metal recycling industry.
The salvage company owner hosted a conference of area scrap yard owners in April 2008, because he believed copper theft had become a problem.
Mrs. Smith said people who wished to help Daniels family could be directed to call one of his businesses.
