Duplin schools' finance officer leaving her job

KENANSVILLE -- After helping bring the Duplin County school system through a lawsuit and a performance audit, Carolyn Olivarez has resigned her post as chief finance officer.
Mrs. Olivarez said she will leave in March.
She is going from having a staff of nine as the Duplin school system's CFO to overseeing a staff of 30 in her new job as the Durham County school system's executive finance officer.
The school budget in Duplin is $75 million to operate 16 schools. The 55 schools in Durham schools operate on a $416 million budget.
"I'm pretty nervous. That's a lot to entrust to me. I hope I can fill those shoes," she said. "It's going to be a challenge and an opportunity to grow ... It's going to be a lot to learn really fast."
