Eight girls competing for title of Miss Eastern Wayne High

Eight contestants will compete for the title "Miss Eastern Wayne High School 2009" on Friday at 7 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium at Wayne Community College.
Theme of the 16th annual scholarship pageant is "Dream Girls." The event is sponsored by the school's chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. More than $4,000 in scholarship money will be awarded to the top three winners.
Special guests expected are Miss Goldsboro Molly Deans and the reigning Miss Eastern Wayne, Hailey Best. Master of ceremonies will be Michelle Braxton.
Jessica Henry, 18, will sing "We Can," made popular by LeAnn Rimes. Jessica is the daughter of Eric and Jeanie Henry and plans to attend ECU to pursue a degree in English education.
Melody Lee, 16, will perform a baton routine to "PYT" by Michael Jackson. Melody is the daughter of Jerry and Beverly Lee and plans to attend N.C. Central University to pursue a career as a tax attorney.
Kate McMillan, 17, will sing "Not for the Life of Me" from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Kate is the daughter of Stuart and Michaux McMillan and will attend the University of Cincinnati in the College Conservatory of Music to pursue a degree in musical theater.
Ashley Mozingo, 17, has composed a poem she will recite. The daughter of Cedric Mozingo, Jr. and Wendy Mozingo, she plans to attend Winston-Salem State University to study biochemistry and forensic sciences.
Lauren Richards, 16, will perform a jazz dance routine to "Missing" by Terry Todd Club Mix. The daughter of John and Gail Richards, she plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
Brittany Smith, 17, will sing "One Night Only" from the movie Dream Girls and made popular by Jennifer Hudson. The daughter of Michael and Renee Smith, she plans to attend the University of North Carolina to major in biochemistry and pharmacy.
Niya Smith, 16, will perform a poetry recitation of "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou. The daughter of Arnold and Edna Durham, and plans to attend A&T University to major in political science followed by law school.
Emily Tucker, 17, will sing "Think of Me" from the Broadway musical "Phantom of the Opera". Emily is the daughter of David and Tawnya Tucker. She plans to attend college and major in music education and classical voice performance.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. They may be purchased from contestants or the pageant director, Carolyn Wegman at 751-7120.
