Doug Casey of Seven Springs was recipient of the G. Edgar Summerlin Award from the Wayne County Firefighters Association.

A Seven Springs firefighter took home the Wayne County Firemen's Association top award Tuesday night, and a Little River women's auxiliary member earned her organization's top honor.

Doug Casey of Seven Springs won the G. Edgar Summerlin Award, named after the first recipient of the honor in 1975.

Tammy Taylor, of the Little River Volunteer Fire Department, won the Auxiliary Woman of the Year award.

Members of the Wayne County Firemen's Association and Women's Auxiliary gathered at Lane Tree Country Club on Salem Church Road to review a good year and to honor exceptional contributions from two of their own.

Casey said he was honored to receive the award.

"It's very flattering," he said.

The Firemen's Associa-tion and Women's Auxiliary also named incoming officers for the coming year.

Larry Pierce of the Belfast Volunteer Fire Department, who served as vice president last year, will take the reins as president of the association this year.

Oakland Volunteer Fire Department's Jack Howell will be the vice president, Danny Tillman of Fremont will serve as secretary/treasurer and Little River's Mike Aycock will serve as chaplain.

In the Wayne Women's Auxiliary, Stephanie Smith of the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department will serve as president of the auxiliary.

Deb Smith, who is not related to the president, will serve as vice president.

June Smith of the Antioch Fire Department, who is the president's mother-in-law, will serve as treasurer of the organization.

Brandi Jones of Oakland Fire Department will serve as secretary, and Susan Anderson of the Little River Volunteer Fire Department will serve as chaplain, organizers said.
