There is one last hurdle for the nearly 300 dogs seized from Thornton Kennels, and the HSUS is asking for veterinarians to help them clear it.

"We're in dire need of state-licensed veterinarians to be at the shelter to complete the medical transfer forms so the dogs can go out of state to their new temporary homes," said Jordan Crump, public relations officer for the HSUS.

Wednesday is the biggest concern, but volunteer vets will be needed through Thursday or Friday -- however long it takes to get all of the dogs off the fairgrounds, she said.
