City wins four more Main Street awards

For the second year in a row, Goldsboro received four awards from the North Carolina Main Street Conference.
"This year, we beat Salisbury," Mayor Al King said.
Salisbury is known for winning the most awards at the Main Street Conference.
The Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. and city officials received best economic development incentive plan for the Home Ownership Program, best historic rehabilitation for the 1939 fire department headquarters, best downtown event for the annual Ice Cream Social and best public-private partnership for the Paramount Theatre.
Dean Ruedrich, who has helped to sell many historic homes in Goldsboro during his work with Preservation North Carolina, also was recognized as a Main Street Champion.
Last year, the city won best economic development incentive plan for their Comprehensive Historic Neighborhood Revitalization Plan, best new development or new construction project for its new City Hall Annex and best printed promotional item in graphics for the art used for Jazz on George advertisements and T-shirts. Paramount Theatre Director Sherry Archibald was also recognized as a Main Street Champion for her former work with the DGDC and her interest in improving the downtown area. Special recognition was given to the DGDC board of directors and Bobby Parker of Parker Advertising for their sponsor-thank-you CD.
Next year, DGDC Director Julie Thompson hopes the awards continue.
"I hope that we continue to do great work that is worthy of being recognized," she said.
