Lee-Jackson banquet to be held Saturday

The Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold a Lee and Jackson banquet Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at The Steak Barn on U.S. 70 West.

The Goldsboro Rifles Camp, the Dr. B. T. Person Camp, the Pettigrew's Partisan Rangers and the Smithfield Light Infantry Camp are hosting the event.

The public is invited to attend and celebrate the birthdays of two of the South's greatest Civil War heroes.

The speaker will be the Reverend Father Allister Anderson, a retired colonel and chaplain, a World War II and Viet Nam veteran, former chaplain of the Maryland Division and Chaplain-in-Chief of the SCV and now an Eastern Orthodox Christian priest in Hagerstown, Md. Anderson also is an author. Among his publications are works on Henry Wirz, Jefferson Davis, the Confederate Monument at Arlington and "From Godly Inspiration to Human Desecration: An Analysis of the Battle Hymn of the Republic."

The Carteret Grays will provide entertainment.
