YMCA undergoes $200,000 in renovations

Goldsboro Family YMCA members will soon have more options when it comes to exercise.
The Y is currently undergoing $200,000 in renovations to turn the former preschool area into several new exercise rooms, including an aerobic studio with hardwood floors and a cycling studio.
The space will also include two multi-purpose rooms that will likely be a computer lab, a board room and a larger nursery with its own bathroom, Senior Program Director Darren Goroski said.
The renovations will cause changes elsewhere in the facility as well.
Members will see a cardiovascular room to replace the current aerobic room, and the current cardiovascular room will become a yoga room, Goroski said.
But he said that members won't be affected too much by the renovations and repurposing of existing areas.
"Most of the renovations are happening in an area that members don't normally use, and the ones that they do, won't be affected very long," he said.
Once the construction is complete, which should be in January, YMCA staff will only need a few days to move equipment from space to space, Goroski said.
Kriquette Davis, associate executive director of the Y, said staff is excited about the renovations.
"We were running out of space," she said.
The preschool moving in August to the Wayne County Montessori School location was good for two reasons, she said.
"It gave the preschool kids a bigger space and it gives us more room to offer more programs for teenagers and senior citizens, which are the bulk of our membership," she said.
Ms. Davis said that even though members will have more options, their rates won't increase.
