Stocking fund reaches beyond goal

Well, you did it.
Despite an economy that has everyone pinching pennies and all the other good causes to which you could have donated, you chose to help more than 600 Wayne County children have a Christmas they otherwise could not have.
With a final push, the Empty Stocking Fund has met its goal of $41,000.
Only a few weeks ago it seemed unlikely, with the annual Empty Stocking Fund party coming up and the fund thousands of dollars short. But when a desperate plea went out, your donations increased and this week's gifts put the total over the top.
Every cent donated went directly to the children.
Thank you for continuing to support a nearly century-old local tradition and for showing that you care.
Donations are still being accepted and the names of donors will continue to be listed in the News-Argus.
