Christmas with an international flair

Christmas Around the World was the theme this morning in Kathy Harris' kindergarten class at Northwest Elementary School. Students pulled the strings on a pinata to learn how children in Mexico celebrate Las Posadas, a nine-day celebration with origins in Mexico beginning December 16th and ending on Christmas Eve. It symbolizes the trials which Mary and Joseph endured before finding a place to stay where Jesus could be born. Students around the county celebrated the upcoming holiday in many ways before classes were dismissed early today in Wayne County Public Schools. Classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 5.
