Wayne County Sheriff's Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team deputies Mike Smiley, left, and Cpl. Jerry Maxwell are pictured with 180 pounds of marijuana.

DUDLEY -- Authorities seized about 175 pounds of marijuana after setting up a surveillance operation at a Trailwood Drive home Friday.

The home's owner has not been charged, but a Goldsboro man has -- Decarlo Andre Russell, 35, of Hopkins Street -- Sheriff's Office Lt. Chris Worth said.

Deputies stopped Russell after he left the 106 Trailwood Drive home on Friday, and found him to be in possession of the illegal drug, the lieutenant said.

Russell was charged with two counts of trafficking and was jailed under a $100,000 bond, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office records.

Worth said he could not say how he got information about the marijuana shipment, which was seized in two large boxes between Friday and Monday mornings.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for the second container on Monday afternoon, and weighed out about 175 pounds of marijuana, Worth said.

The lieutenant said the marijuana was likely intended for distribution.

"I believe it was headed, or probably was going to be distributed in or around, Wayne County," Worth said. "The potential street value is about $300,000."

The lieutenant said marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug.

"It's probably the most abused drug in Wayne County," Worth said.
