A "substantial amount" of drugs and some weapons were found after Goldsboro police arrived at a Dallas Road home where a man had been shot multiple times, Wayne County Sheriff's Office officials said today.
James Hubert Leonard, 159 Dallas Road, was listed in either serious or critical condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital today, Sheriff's Office investigations Capt. Tom Effler said.
However, he added, no charges have been filed against shooting victim Leonard, 30, or girlfriend Angela Chanelle Leftdwrige, who deputies believe shot Leonard around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Sheriff's deputies first received information that the shooting was a break-in, Effler said, but found no evidence of that at the scene.
"We were first advised that it was a break-in (in which) someone was shot, but it ended up being a domestic disturbance between a boyfriend and a girlfriend," Effler said.
He explained that when deputies arrived, Leonard had stumbled outside, as if to get to a vehicle, but that the shooting occurred inside.
Pitt Memorial Hospital spokesman Beth Ann Atkins said that the hospital had no record of Leonard.
Although police said Leonard had been airlifted to Pitt after the Sunday evening shooting, hospitals sometimes agree to confidentiality agreements, patients sometimes sign in under names other than their own, or are transferred to a different hospital.
Effler said that charges are pending, but would not divulge whether the shooting victim or his girlfriend would be charged, or with what charges.
"No charges have been done at this time, because investigation is pending," he said.
