GATEWAY, the Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority, is looking for sponsors for its recently purchased bus stop benches.
So far, of the 40 benches purchased, three have been installed -- one at the Wayne County Senior Center on South John Street, one at WAGES on Royall Avenue and one at the Food Lion on Ash Street.
Total there are approximately 110 bus stops.
"These are just going to be at different bus stops," said GATEWAY Director Alan Stubbs. "We have a few (11) shelters at our bus stops, and we just wanted to put some benches out, too."
He explained that the benches were purchased largely with federal dollars and that he is seeking $100 sponsorships to cover the local match on each.
Installing the benches, he continued, is something that he has long wanted to do.
"I had some federal money, and plus it's something we've needed to do for our passengers -- a lot of whom are elderly or who are carrying packages or who are mothers or fathers with children, and need someplace to sit while waiting for the bus.
"Plus if somebody's walking around town this will give them someplace to sit and rest."
