Roderick Lee, 9, a fifth-grader at Tommy's Road Elementary School, waits at the bus stop Wednesday in the frigid morning temperatures.

This morning's cold snap was just a passing thing, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Moneypenny -- a normal winter fluctuation in temperatures. With a low this morning in the mid-20s -- only 5 to 10 degrees below normal -- temperatures this afternoon are expected to rise into the mid-50s, which is a normal high for this time of year. He also expects Thursday to be even warmer, with highs in the low 60s. But with five local Christmas parades on tap for Saturday, Moneypenny said he expects things to cool down after a cold front blows in Thursday, keeping the highs down into the upper 40s.
