Wayne Jackson, left, and Brownie Southerland, the owner of Bo-tank-us Christmas Tree Farm, prepare a Fraser fir for a customer. The tree was grown in the mountains, but customers can also pick from live trees grown on the farm on Beautancus Road in northern Duplin County, including white pine, red cedar and Leland cypress. Southerland said sales have been slow so far but he expects business to pick up in the next couple of weeks as the holiday draws near. North Carolina ranks second in the nation in the number of Christmas trees grown, with Fraser firs the most popular.
