County museum to celebrate 20 years

The Wayne County Historical Association will celebrate the Wayne County Museum's 20th anniversary on Tuesday, Dec. 9 with dinner and entertainment beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The dinner at the museum, located in the city's historic district at 116 N. William St., will be catered by Pupetta's Restaurant.
Entertainment will be by Mount Olive College's Free Spirit under the direction of Dr. Alan Armstrong.
Historical Association President Preston Garris will also give a presentation.

The museum, which offers diverse exhibits illustrating the history, science and cultural heritage of Wayne County and central eastern North Carolina, was founded in 1986 when the Goldsboro Woman's Club donated the 1927 vintage building to the Wayne County Historical Association.
The Historical Association raised over $65,000 to restore the outside and ground floor.
On Dec. 9, 1988 the Wayne County Museum was officially opened with an event attended by 400 people.
Since the museum's opening, the Historical Association has added an elevator to make the second floor handicap accessible. Other additions include a wheelchair ramp in front of the building and new handicap accessible restrooms.
