Citizens can get first look at work on Union Station

Wayne County and Golds-boro residents will soon be able to get a sneak peek at the progress of the Union Station renovations.
Work on stabilizing the historic building expected to be finished in December.
And to celebrate all that has been accomplished so far, the city and the North Carolina Department of Transportation Rail Division are planning a ceremony at the station Dec. 16 at 5 p.m.
During the ceremony, the station will be decorated with Christmas lights and an American flag will be raised. The station's lobby also will be open for display.
Representatives from the rail and transit divisions of the state Department of Transportation and Mayor Al King will make remarks just outside of the front doors of the station.
After the speeches, the group will make its way inside to raise the flag with the accompaniment of the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Another patriotic song will follow.
At the end of the ceremony, King will flip the switch to turn the Christmas lights on.
That same night, the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. will sponsor free trolley rides downtown from 6 to 8 p.m. For those who attend the ceremony and want to ride the trolley, it will make a special trip to the station at 5:30 p.m.
