Chamber seeks names for Cornerstone Award

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is now taking nominations for the Wayne County Cornerstone Award.
Every year, the award recognizes an individual who has truly been a "cornerstone" for this county.
Created in 1996, past recipients of the Cornerstone Award are: Richard B. Moffatt, Hal Tanner Sr., Clarence "Icky" Peacock, William Dees Jr., Hal Plonk, Bertha Shepherd Wooten, Ollie Toomey, Troy Pate Jr., Jimmie Edmundson, William P. Kemp, Jr., Dr. Ed Wilson and David Weil.
Chamber officials say there are numerous individuals who have given their time and dedicated their lives to making Wayne County a better place to live, work and raise a family -- the qualities of past award recipients.
This lifelong achievement award is presented annually to an individual, living or deceased, who has gone above and beyond for the betterment of Goldsboro and Wayne County. A few criteria are long-term service to Wayne County; Significant impact on the overall betterment to the area; considered part of the foundation of the area; may or may not have been involved in business, education, government.
If the award recipient is deceased, the honor will be presented to his or her family.
The nomination form can be picked up at the Wayne County Chamber offices at 308 N. William St. or downloaded from the Chamber's Website www.waynecountychamber.com.
The Cornerstone Award will be presented at the Wayne County Chamber's Annual Banquet Jan. 13. The award recipient's name also will be placed on a plaque and inserted into the ground at the Cornerstone Commons in downtown Goldsboro.
Following the presentation of the award, the chamber will hold its annual meeting during which 2009 chairman, Terry Jordan of First Citizens Bank, will introduce his goals and the chamber's board members.
Nomination forms are due by Dec. 12. Application can be e-mailed to pattyg@waynecountychamber.com, or mailed to Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, Attention: Cornerstone, P.O. Box 1107, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533 or dropped off at the Wayne County Chamber located at 308 N. William St.
