Firefighters respond to fire

Wayne and Lenoir county fire departments respond to a structure fire at 250 Piney Grove Church Road Thursday night.
A fully involved structure fire at 250 Piney Grove Church Road caused about $50,000 in damages to the structure in a Thursday night fire, authorities said.
Lt. Rob Loreman of the Elroy Fire Department said that fire officials got the call to report to the single-family home at 8:46 p.m. on Thursday.
Loreman said he believed that there was a problem with the gas supply to the heating and cooling system, which caused the fire.
"I believe that what we had is a problem with the gas pack, and we had an explosion, and that's what caused the fire," Loreman said.
However, the official cause of the fire remains undetermined, the lieutenant said.
There was a man at home during the fire, but he escaped without injury. Fire officials did not have identification of the man, Loreman said.
