A man accused of killing 33-year-old Joseph Antonio Payan was indicted this month by the Wayne County grand jury.

Devon Dejatorian Jones-Waters, 29, was named Goldsboro's "most-wanted" man by city police in January, after the Nov. 17, 2007, shooting.

A Granville Drive resident heard gunfire in the woods outside her home that night. She found Payan's body while patrolling the area with her husband the next morning. He was dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to police reports.

Las Vegas police caught up with Jones-Waters on Feb. 19. Police had been notified the suspect might be hiding in Vegas about two weeks prior to the arrest, a detective said at the time.

Court officials scheduled Jones-Waters for trial Nov. 25, where he will face both a first-degree murder charge and a count of felony-level armed robbery.

Jones-Waters will also face a charge alleging that he has committed violent felonies on a habitual basis, according to court records.
