Stop the Funeral Initiative opens second gang conference today

The Stop the Funeral Initiative will open its second annual Drug Dealer Gang Member Redemption Confer-ence today at the organization's headquarters at the Goldsboro Raleigh Assembly at 214 Hooks River Road.
The three-day event will feature speakers and exhibitions designed to convince young people to turn away from doing drugs and joining gangs.
Goldsboro police Chief Tim Bell, Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders, District Attorney Branny Vickory, Superior Court Judge Jerry Braswell and Theresa Barratt of the Day Reporting Center are partners in sponsoring the event, which begins with a panel discussion at noon today followed by an opportunity fair featuring education and employment opportunities.
A worship service will be held tonight at 7 p.m., featuring Mother Spirit. A service on Friday night will have a combined mass choir and special music.
On Saturday, the conference will culminate with an anti-drug, anti-gang message delivered by Otis Lyons and Campaign4Change at 3 p.m. at Goldsboro High School. The event is free to all Wayne County students. Tickets are required and are available at every middle and high school in the county this week. They also will be available at the door as long as seats last.
Parents are being encouraged to attend with their children.
Panel discussions will include "Cost of Crime and the Benefit of Education," and "What We Would Rather See."
