Steve Keen of the Rosewood community kept the District 4 commission seat in Republican hands Tuesday, defeating Democrat Denny Tart of Grantham 5,239 votes (60.97 percent) to 3,354 (39.03 percent).

The seat was left vacant when Republican Commissioner Efton Sager decided not to seek re-election and instead run for the District 11 seat in the state House.

"It has been a journey, and I will start a new journey tomorrow," Keen said. "I have not had a lot of to time to think about it yet. I am humbled in the fact that so many people worked really hard in today's weather. So many people stood in the rain. I am humbled in that, and I appreciate them. I am enjoying the moment."

Keen said he knows serving on the board carries a "lot of responsibility" and is a serious job.

He said he is ready to work hard for the next four years.

Tart said in an e-mail that he had no comment.
