Veteran has ring lifted off finger
An 87-year-old veteran told Goldsboro police officers that he had a $1,000 gold ring stolen right off his finger during a handshake with a stranger Halloween night. Wyche Ray told officers that he was eating at Western Sizzlin' when the incident occurred. A man noticed the "Veteran" cap he was wearing and started a conversation -- one that led to a handshake during which Ray's ring vanished. He also told police he believes another man who stopped to talk to him during that handshake was trying to distract him so he would not notice the ring was being taken.
