Rezoning annexed areas OK'd

The Goldsboro Planning Commission moved the process of zoning the annexed property along Buck Swamp and Salem Church roads forward at its meeting Monday night.
Commission members approved three public hearing items from the Oct. 20 City Council meeting, including one regarding new zoning for the annexed area.
The public hearing items will go back to the City Council at the Nov. 3 meeting for final approval.
Currently, all of the property in the area is zoned residential, but city Planning Department officials proposed to change zonings for the area to include two residential zones, an office and institutional zone and a neighborhood business zone since there are three current commercial properties in the area.
The area was part of a four-year annexation legal battle between residents and city officials that ended after the state Supreme Court refused to hear the residents' appeal in August.
The commission also approved the change of property located on the south side of West Grantham Street between the Little River and Nevel Street from residential to general industry as well as a sign ordinance amendment that would allow existing billboards that don't comply with current standards to be replaced with a changeable face LED, or light-emitting diode, billboard if certain standards are met.
A site and landscape plan was also approved for a parking lot at Southern District Convocation of the United Holy Church on Oak Forest Road between Summit Road and Ash Street. The lot would provide 578 spaces. The plan must be approved by the commission because it disturbs more than one acre of land on the property.
