Two Wayne County men died Thursday when their car ran off the edge of Outlaw Road and wrapped around a tree, a state Highway Patrol official said Saturday.

Sgt. K.W. Cooke said that at about 6:24 p.m., they received a call about a wreck on Outlaw Road, just east of Genoa Road.

The two men, identified as Fredi Bartolon Angel, 24, Neely Drive, Goldsboro, and Carlos Roblero Angel, 19, Mitchell Road, Dudley, were traveling west, Cooke said, when their vehicle ran off the right side of the road, "over-corrected," and then ran off the left.

Upon running off the left side, Cooke explained that the car then "partially turned over," coming to rest against a tree.

"It wrapped around the tree. The interior of the car was wrapped into a circle," he said. "They appeared to have died on impact."

He estimated that the vehicle was traveling "conservatively" at about 65 mph. The speed limit on that section of road, which is relatively straight, is 55. He said there was "no indication" as to what caused the car to leave the road initially.
