North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Jim Long announced that the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $2,535.00 grant through the Volunteer Fire Department Fund.
The money will be used to buy needed equipment.
At the same time, Long announced that the Little River Volunteer Fire Department will receive a similar grant for $11,331.45 through the same program.
The Patetown department has received $75,026.40 from the Volunteer Fire Department Fund since the program was created 21 years ago.
The Little River department has received $76,241.43 from the Volunteer Fire Department Fund over the same period of time.
The grant funds must be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to an approved amount, by money raised locally to purchase necessary equipment.
