Walnut Creek was one of seven municipalities in the county to receive the funds distributed by the N.C. Department of Transportation. All told, the municipalities received more than $1.382 million.
The funding helps municipalities pay for maintenance, repair, construction, widening and sidewalks on city-owned streets.
Seventy-five percent of the funds are allocated based on an annual population estimation, while the remaining 25 percent is based on the number of city-owned street miles in each municipality.
Walnut Creek has a population of 903 and has 11.21 miles of city-owned streets. It received $24,968.36 in Powell Bill Funds and $14,215.35 from the Highway Trust Fund for a total allocation of $39,183.71.
