Students arrested

Six students have been charged with affray following a Wednesday morning fight in a hallway at Southern Wayne High School at Dudley. All six were placed under $500 bonds. Charged were: Carols Ponte Council, 16, Cleveland Drive, Mount Olive; Vincent Andrew Edwards, 17, South Church Street, Mount Olive; Shygan Omar Lattner, 17, Brentwood Drive, Dudley; Dallas Rose Sutton, 17, Lincoln Drive, Dudley; Linwood West, 16, East Pollock Street, Mount Olive.

Shootings

*A resident of the 1700 block of Maple Street was getting her children out of the car Thursday night around 8:30, and said she heard shots fired, police say. As she turned to see where the shots were coming from, someone shot her in the leg, then shot into the vehicle where three children were sitting. The victim said she didn't know the suspect, police say.

*Eric Lamont Best, 36, was found shot, laying in a driveway at 705 Franklin Street Thursday around 4:05 p.m., police say.

Robberies

*A resident of Pikeville said that an unknown black male forced her into her vehicle at the Sprint Store on U.S. 70 East Thursday around 11 a.m. with a handgun, and told her to drive. The suspect removed $35 from her purse, told her what streets to turn onto, then exited the car on foot, police say.

*An employee of The Pantry at 2606 N. William St. reported that someone robbed the store Friday morning around 12:08 with a shotgun, taking money from the register, cutting the phone line and taking the store clerk's cell phone then left, police say.
