Civil War history comes to life Saturday in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE -- A free living history program on the Civil War will offer a snapshot of life during that time while providing more public exposure for the David John Aaron Teaching and History Museum.
The program will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the museum, 137 E. Main St.
"We are just trying to get programs started and get the public interested," said Austin House who is spearheading the program.
It is the first such program to be held at the museum, but House is hopeful it will become an annual event.
"We'd like to do something on a regular basis," he said. "Maybe we can have more re-enactors in the future. I'd like to see us do these four to five times a year."
Interpreters will be available Saturday to discuss Civil War medicine, photography, blockade running and Confederate female spies.
A blacksmith and apprentice will make and sell items.
House said re-enactors are scheduled to set up a period camp.
Also, he said, there will be period food for people to sample.
The museum will be open for tours.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.
