Days Inn property still for sale

A representative for the owner of the recently demolished Days Inn property says he can't reveal what companies are looking at the former motel site but adds rumors of a motel or new restaurant are not too far off the mark.
Property owner Mark H. Daley III's secretary said neither she nor Daley were aware of any interested parties, and referred further comment to Realtor Bill Smith.
Smith, who works for The Generation Companies -- Daley's company -- and is handling the sale of the property, said some of the talk about the possibility of a deal with a new owner are true.
"We are in serious talks with two separate parties," he said. And when asked if those parties were restaurant or hotel businesses, he replied, "Both."
Smith said he couldn't reveal too much about the negotiations since neither party is yet under contract, but he added that one party wishes to buy the entire piece while the other only wants to buy part of it.
"We are looking into subdividing the site, but we haven't decided which way we are going yet," he said.
Smith added that there have been "conservatively 20" inquiries about the land.
The parcel includes 3.28 acres. The asking price is $1.1 million.
Goldsboro Chief Building Inspector Ed Cianfarra, who worked with Daley through the motel's condemnation and demolition process, said he believes the property would sell quicker if it was split into two or three parcels, so that two or three businesses could come in and not have to purchase the entire million-dollar area.
The Days Inn motel stood on the property for 35 years before a windstorm badly damaged the structure's roof and second floor last August.
The structure was officially condemned by the Goldsboro City Council in February, and the building came down last month, with final cleanup finishing only weeks ago.
