SEVEN SPRINGS -- Flowers Timber Co. has donated $2,000 worth of mulch to the town of Seven Springs for its children's park.

Town Clerk Karen Linker said the pile of mulch is plenty to cover both parts of the park. The town's children's park is in two sections, one for little children and the other for larger children.

"And that's enough mulch for both sections," Ms. Linker said. "We had ordered 20 yards, about $400 worth, because that is all the town could afford."

But Jeremy Flowers of Flowers Timber located on Arrington Bridge Road told Ms. Linker he had a tractor trailer load and asked if he could donate that.

The town officials happily accepted the offer.

"He said he just wanted to help our park. He said it was an absolutely beautiful park and he wanted to help. And we needed it. There was a big gap under the (CSS Neuse replica) gunboat, and we needed to get that covered. And there were several other areas that need it as well," she said. "Weeds were growing up, and we just didn't have the money to put mulch back in. Mulch is a very expensive thing to buy."
